Pharmacy Services

We dispense both NHS and private prescriptions. We also keep record of what we supply, so we can tell whether it is safe for you to take the newly prescribed medicine together with any other medication you may be taking, and we will give advice on how to get the most benefit from your medicines.  The labels on your medicines will alert you to any precautions you should take, such as avoiding alcohol or not driving. We keep a comprehensive stock of medicines and remedies and use a fast and efficient wholesaler service to enable us to fill all prescriptions promptly.

You can be confident that our counter staffs are properly trained through accredited courses, ensuring they can provide advice on common ailments, treatments and medicines. You may be asked some simple questions and our staff may refer you to the pharmacist before you buy anything. This is to ensure that you get the most suitable advice or product.

We have a wide range of well-known products available, many of which you can buy from a pharmacy. If you wish, you can talk in confidence to the pharmacist about common ailments and their treatments.

Pharmacies are also useful places to go for advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. You are always welcome to come in and help yourself to the display of healthcare leaflets covering many of the topics we frequently get asked about. Look out for the new ones each month!

 Repeat Dispensing Service

We offer a repeat dispensing service which means that your regular prescribed medicines can be obtained directly from the pharmacy. Your repeat prescription will be dispensed so that your medicine is ready to pick up when you want it. Please as the pharmacist for more information about this service.

 Electronic Prescription Service

Our computerized Patient Medication System is already enabled to receive electronic prescriptions from your GP service, so that when you arrive at the pharmacy your medicines are already dispensed and waiting for your collection. Please ask the pharmacist on how you can register for this service.

Confidential Help & Advice

We have a private consultation area where you can talk about your medicines or general healthcare or we can direct you to other sources of advice and assistance if we cannot help you ourselves. Ask to speak to the pharmacist on duty.

 Information about Prescription medicines

Many of the medicines we dispense for you are supplied in the manufacturer’s original pack complete with a leaflet containing information about the medicine, which is required by law. Please speak to the pharmacist if there is anything in the leaflet, which you are unsure about or you want to know anything else. Where possible we use child resistant containers unless you ask us not to. Please remember: keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children. Our pharmacist can advice you on safe storage of medicines.

NHS Health Advice and Self-care

The pharmacist and our trained assistants are available for advice on all medicines and minor ailments, in private if required. We can also give you advice on how to live a healthy life, for example, advice on how to stop smoking, weight loss or healthy diets.  We can direct you to other sources of advice and assistance if we cannot help you ourselves.

 Emergency Supply

We may be able to help if you need a prescription medicine in a genuine emergency when it is impossible to get to your doctor.

We must stress that this can only be done in genuine emergencies and it may incur a charge.

If you would like any more information about any of the services mentioned, please ask a member of staff or telephone the number on the front of this leaflet.

 Unwanted Medicines

Do not hoard medicines – it can be fatal. Return unused medicines to us for safe destruction. Don’t put them in the bin or flush them down the toilet.

 Medicine Review Service

If you are taking several different medicines we may be able to offer you a medicines review. We will able to sit down and discuss any problems you may be having taking your medicines and answer any questions you may have. Please ask the pharmacist for more information about this service.

This confidential NHS service will help you to find out more about your medicines, identify any problems you may be having with them and help you to take your medicines to best effect.

 NHS New Medicine Service

When you are prescribed a medicine to treat a long-term condition for the first time, the pharmacist will support you to use the medicine safely and to best effect.

The pharmacist will talk to you approximately two weeks after you first receive the medicine to see how you are getting on with it and to discuss any problems you may have. A second follow-up will be a month after you first receive the medicine. The service is only available to people using certain medicines; our pharmacist will give you details and offer this free NHS service, if this is available to you.

 Patient Medication Records

Our computer allows us to keep records of all your prescriptions dispensed by us. This helps us check for possible problems, such as reactions between medicines and will help us deal with any queries you may have.

We comply with the Data Protection Act and the NHS code of practice on confidentiality.  If you want to discuss the records we keep, please ask to speak to the pharmacist.
